Last Words

My Dear, Saint Arthur,

You. You were the one who saved me. Not once, but twice.

Although you once told me that throwing the brick was one of your most regrettable decisions, I want to say thank you.

If I hadn't of met you, oh well I won't go there...but I do want to say that since I have met you, you have taught me perseverance and strength.

Arthur, when I first met you, you were quite an angry young man. This was much understood since your father had just passed away. Although you made a decision out of rage that you regret now, you handled the consequences with poise. You helped me, and it has truly become an honor to work along side of you. Thank you for all of your hard work and consistency with this project.

Although I am one who does not get emotional (I blame the war for that quality) I do want to say that I have cherished our conversations and your vulnerability about your family, father, and the pain you feel about loss. I know that me getting sick wasn't on "the list" but I can tell you that I wouldn't have wanted to spend my last days anywhere else but with you and "The Throne of the Third Heaven." We have come such a long way and I can't wait to look down and see how you have progressed. I am so proud of you.

Yes, yes I did say that I am proud of YOU-- Arthur Owens.

You are quite a fine young gentleman who, I will say again, is strong and loyal to those you care about. It truly is magnificent. You don't give up. Thank you for inspiring me with that quality.

Thank you for being like the son I never had. You made me feel young again and as if life had been refreshed. I want you to continue sharing those qualities with the people you meet.

Arthur, when we stood together as we were building our masterpiece, we saw our reflections in a myriad of shiny materials. While you just stared quietly, I looked over and saw a young man who is finding his voice. A young man who is ready to brave the world.

Arthur, you are not defined by your past. There is a shimmering hope that lies ahead and I know you have a transfixed gaze on it.

You have a vision and I encourage you to keep pressing on. Don't stop running the race.

And most importantly Arthur,

F E A R    N O T

With Love & Admiration,

J. H.
